Summary

Written in a fast-paced thriller style, The Goal is the gripping novel which is transforming management thinking throughout the Western world。 The author has been described by Fortune as a 'guru to industry' and by Businessweek as a 'genius'。 It is a book to recommend to your friends in industry - even to your bosses - but not to your competitors。 Alex Rogo is a harried plant manager working ever more desperately to try and improve performance。 His factory is rapidly heading for disaster。 So is his marriage。 He has ninety days to save his plant - or it will be closed by corporate HQ, with hundreds of job losses。 It takes a chance meeting with a colleague from student days - Jonah - to help him break out of conventional ways of thinking to see what needs to be done。 The story of Alex's fight to save his plant is more than compulsive reading。 It contains a serious message for all managers in industry and explains the ideas which underline the Theory of Constraints (TOC) developed by Eli Goldratt。 Eliyahu M。 Goldratt is an internationally recognized leader in the development of new business management concepts and systems, and acts as an educator to many of the world's corporations。 The 20th anniversary edition includes a series of detailed case study interviews by David Whitford, Editor at Large, Fortune Small Business, which explore how organizations around the world have been transformed by Eli Goldratt's ideas。

As required reading for a project management class, I thoroughly enjoyed The Goal。 But as a standalone novel in itself? No thanks。 The characters were fairly engaging - though I feel like an entire essay could be written about gender roles and author Goldratt's longsuffering wife characters - and the plot moved along at a fast clip。 But there were no surprises。 I suspected everything would work out 。 。 。 and it did! Amazing book。

I would not have read this book if it’s not mandatory reading for business school。 Lost a lot of literary brain cells while reading it but at least I learned some Operations and Process Improvement related concepts。 Herbie is the cutest though!

A refreshing take on a familiar problem in a form of a business novel。 Must read to anyone who's in any kind of management。 Easy entry point to the theory of constraints and the kanban system。The audio book is the perfect format and your best way to go。 Feels like a movie! I have never read a book such as this one before。 It was an interesting mix of story telling and education。 I found the writing bland at best, and some of the interactions with his wife felt superfluous to the theory of constraints。 I wish there had been more of an explicit wrap up before it ended。 It seemed to just stop in a random spot。 I enjoyed that this book revealed that the superfluous policies many companies use to measure success aren't indicative of success at all, and that the bottom I have never read a book such as this one before。 It was an interesting mix of story telling and education。 I found the writing bland at best, and some of the interactions with his wife felt superfluous to the theory of constraints。 I wish there had been more of an explicit wrap up before it ended。 It seemed to just stop in a random spot。 I enjoyed that this book revealed that the superfluous policies many companies use to measure success aren't indicative of success at all, and that the bottom line is really the goal of all operations。 I enjoyed that there were concrete examples of their plant and how the bottlenecks and inventory manipulations effected their lead times。 The book kind of lost me in the last 1/4 when he started to talk about management, maybe that's why I wish there was more of a wrap up chapter。 。。。more

The only reason this isn’t five stars is because it’s a little too long。 It’s a book that has affected the way I’ve run my business the past 17 years。 It focuses on a factory setting but applies to all business。

There were some good concepts in the book with enough analogies to remember them by; however, the author clearly was not the best novelist。 Some parts of the fictional story was very cringey and cliche。 If you're like me, I definitely did not pick up this story for the romance and after reading it, I definitely won't be using it for any type of relationship guidance that's for sure。Although I have issues with the side stories and the poor sense of humor in the book, the concepts of the book were There were some good concepts in the book with enough analogies to remember them by; however, the author clearly was not the best novelist。 Some parts of the fictional story was very cringey and cliche。 If you're like me, I definitely did not pick up this story for the romance and after reading it, I definitely won't be using it for any type of relationship guidance that's for sure。Although I have issues with the side stories and the poor sense of humor in the book, the concepts of the book were very clear and easy to visualize。 The story and analogies do help cement the ideas and fuel some interesting discussions during our book club。 By presenting it in a story format, it is easier to relate to the character and the issues he runs into in his organization's processes。 。。。more

As a novel, it's terrible! I really don't believe some of the characters, and it's, by current standards, it's sexist。 However, he does a really solid job of developing his thesis and uncovering a very practical application, in a way, I think, even those without manufacturing experience can understand。 This book gave me a lot to think about。 Perhaps reading the Phoenix Project first and having Lean IT experience has been helpful, but I still think most can get it。 As a novel, it's terrible! a。tThe Goal es una novela que disfruté muchísimo leer。 Alejándote un poco de los libros de no-ficción que estamos acostumbrados a leer para prepararnos mejor en nuestra carrera, The Goal nos inmersa en una fábrica con problemas de producción。 Aunque el libro está un poco más enfocado en la teoría de las restricciones, nos hace entender que no importa en qué escalón de la organización estemos, siempre podemos ayudar a nuestra empresa a lograr su meta: Generar más utilidades。

A fictional business book that forces its readers to think about what productivity really means for a business, for each individual worker。 You follow Alex Rogo who has three months to desperately turn his production plant around and generate new levels of productivity。 Creating a narrative around these simple thought pieces helps provide a concrete case study and actionable steps。 The book is perhaps a little bit out of date and out of touch as it is in a pre-internet era。 But I thoroughly enjo A fictional business book that forces its readers to think about what productivity really means for a business, for each individual worker。 You follow Alex Rogo who has three months to desperately turn his production plant around and generate new levels of productivity。 Creating a narrative around these simple thought pieces helps provide a concrete case study and actionable steps。 The book is perhaps a little bit out of date and out of touch as it is in a pre-internet era。 But I thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless 。。。more

Paradigm shifting。 Always I had been seeing production in a cost accounting way, and didn’t get how to price the value of unfilled capacity。 Now I understand。 Recommended read。

Very interesting how we focus on optimizing siloed parts of business thinking huge improvements are being made even though holistically that is not improving the end goal (i。e sell more products even though efficiency of a machine is increased)。 Mostly this happens because of bottleneck and because some thing unintuivily do not change the end output。

Very good book to read。 Just like reading a novel with much of science on it。 Love to read it。 My only complaint is this book is not providing any summary in the end of the book so you have to read it back if you need something to recall。

To be honest I had low expectations for The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement , especially since this genere isn't my thing。 Boy was I surprised when I started reading it! It hooked me almost right away, I couldn't put it down。 To be honest I had low expectations for The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement , especially since this genere isn't my thing。 Boy was I surprised when I started reading it! 。。more

Informative and eye opening! So basically, reading books which just solely state facts may strike out as boring but this books includes a story which makes obviously more readable。

I am glad my managerial accounting class made me read this because it has been on my list for a while。 I enjoy how educational it is, yet maintains a storyline。 Toward the end it starts to feel a little redundant, and I think the wife came off a little dramatic and juvenile, which was slightly frustrating。 However, I recommend this book, and I think that overall it is a fantastic read!

Through a fictional story of a factory gone bad, the concepts of supply chain are explained。 Explained in simple layman terms, this book's learning can be extended to solving real-life problems。 Particularly enjoyed the part where a ordinary trekking exercise is used to decipher the problem at hand。 Through a fictional story of a factory gone bad, the concepts of supply chain are explained。 Explained in simple layman terms, this book's learning can be extended to solving real-life problems。 Particularly enjoyed the part where a ordinary trekking exercise is used to decipher the problem at hand。 。。。more
